About Me

“Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle.” – Alice, Alice in Wonderland

Hi, I’m Alice Yeh!

As my friends and family know, I am always up for an adventure and spontaneous last minute trips! My love for travel is deeply rooted in my curiosity and desire to learn. My mom even told me that when I was a kid, she could never take her eyes off of me because as soon as she turned around, I’d be gone – off in my own world exploring. She often lost me in supermarkets and department stores through no fault of her own.

Born to Taiwanese immigrant parents and growing up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, I’ve always been fully aware of my cultural background. This sense of multicultural awareness was amplified by our summer family vacations. These annual trips also fueled my love for travel and discovering new things.

Due to my fondness for learning, I also read a lot while growing up. Coupled with my imagination, these stories could take me to places I’d never been. As a result, I often daydreamed about exploring the world. I turned those dreams of travel into reality when I jumped at the opportunity to live and work abroad shortly after graduating from college. That’s when I really started to rack up the miles and check countries off my bucket list.

I have been lucky to call Philadelphia, New York, Hong Kong, London, Singapore, and now San Francisco home. Living abroad made it easy to visit neighboring countries. As a result, I have visited 50+ countries so far and still counting!

Work took me to all except one of those cities. I started out as a banker but left after 5 years to attend business school. Then I got cushy job at Google where I worked for 4 years as an ad sales executive. However, I decided to call it quits in June 2018.

Since I like to do things a little differently from other people, I’ve always managed to find ways to go against the grain. “Ask for forgiveness not permission” is one of my life mottos. So I left Google with no new job lined up. I wanted a change of pace from the corporate life. I used this break to travel (shocking I know!), learn Spanish, and become a certified yoga teacher. During this time off, I also started this blog as a pet project so we’ll see where this goes.

From Wall Street to MBA to Silicon Valley to who knows what’s next?

Consequently, traveling, living, and working abroad in addition to growing up as an Asian American minority in the US has given me a huge appreciation and awareness for those different from me. Therefore, no matter where I am, I make an effort to learn about and experience other cultures. I especially love to taste the local foods and drinks because who wouldn’t?

To get a more in-depth understanding of why I started this travel blog, read my first post “Eat, Pray, Slay!” to learn about my journey of how I got here and my plans for this blog.
